History

The Wirilda Project Association was formed in 1972 by a group of Latrobe Valley residents who were interested in acquiring the 100 hectare area as a natural local attraction that could be developed as a national tourist park with accommodation, catering, recreation and education facilities.  In 1974, the Park area was bought for $70,000 with assistance of a Federal Government Grant.

While the original concept for the Wirilda Environment Park has not developed, it has become a favourite picnic area with the facilities that are available to visitors, as well as offering opportunities for bushwalking and bird watching.
